Computer Information Systems

 

Computer Information Systems are the complex, large and expensive software systems that are essential to the daily operation of organizations. Examples include:

 

• Reservation systems
• Internet systems (Amazon, eBay, FaceBook)
• Online bank systems
• Stock exchange systems
• Tracking Systems (FedEx, UPS)
• Corporate systems: HR, Accounting/Auditing,
  Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable,
  Order Entry, Enterprise Resource Planing,
  and many more.

 

The Computer Information Systems (CIS) major teaches
students how to design and manage these computer systems.  

 

Primary areas of study include:

• IS and Business
• Web programming
• Databases
• Networks
• Project Management
• Team Dynamics.  

 

There are three “tracks” of specialization:

• Networking  
• Data Warehousing (and business intelligence)
• Systems Development.
